Art Highlight: See the Seer Come To Life!
over 3 years ago – Thu, Dec 17, 2020 at 09:05:50 PM

Do you see what I see?

The Seer was one of the characters we were excited to see develop the most - we have had so many different looks for this role throughout our different games, and it is interesting to see it get recreated every time with a new style and flair.

First concept sketches for the Ultimate Werewolf Extreme Seer

We were drawn to the beauty and mystery conveyed in this concept from the start. As the art progressed and became more and more detailed, we just fell more in love! The flowing of her magical cape, the unique positioning, and her deep pensive gaze - it was all forming into everything we could have wanted!

Seer Art Development for Ultimate Werewolf Extreme

We are absolutely thrilled with the end result, isn't she lovely?!

Card Symbology - What to Expect
over 3 years ago – Wed, Dec 09, 2020 at 11:12:09 PM

Hey all you die-hard Moderators: we're looking at you!

You are going to LOVE the new card symbology system :D

Each role card in Ultimate Werewolf Extreme holds a lot of information to help moderators create balanced games and run them effectively. Much of this information has little to no impact on the players themselves, and they need not be aware of it. The two pieces of information that most impact the players are the background and the fencepost color. The background of each card indicates which team that role is on, whether it be the village team, the wolf team, the vampire team, an independent team, or a mix of two teams. For instance, the Black Cat, which wins with the team that did not eliminate them, has a background that is a mix of the village team and wolf team backgrounds. The color of the fence post also indicates which team the role is on as well as their position on the team. Light blue fence posts indicate the card is on the village team but is not a plain villager. Dark red fence posts are for any kind of wolf that is on the wolf team (the Lone Wolf is a wolf that is on an independent team). Light red fence posts are wolf team support roles that do not need to be eliminated for the village team to win.

There is a variety of information that helps moderators balance the game. Most obvious of these are the numerical balance scores near the bottom of the fence post. Keeping the sum of all roles close to 0 is a good way for moderators to balance villages. Another way for moderators to balance villages is through information value. This is found at the top of fence posts with the number of cracks indicating how much information each role adds to the game. Some roles such as the Cursed or the Lycan provide bad information and have a negative information score noted by a cap on the top of the fence post. The length of the fence relative to the fence post tells moderators whether the role will cause the game to go shorter or longer. The shorter the fence, the shorter the game. The smoothness or raggedness of the top of the fence will let the moderator know how difficult the role will be for them to include in their game. Villagers have a flat fence top because they require no extra effort for the moderator. The Cult Leader has a jagged fence top because it creates more information the moderator must track.

There is also information on the cards to help the moderator organize the game. Each role that wakes during the night phase has a moon on the fence, often subtly hidden behind the role text. These moons indicate wake order during the night phase and will keep roles that depend on other roles acting first from going out of order. There are also symbols on the fence posts of some cards that indicate that the role has some special consideration. There is a shield on protector roles and an eye on roles that require a Seer to be in the game. There is also a symbol for roles that require there to be no independent roles in the game. There is one more symbol on some of the cards: a spider web. The spider web tells moderators that those roles should not be used in games with experienced players as they can meta-game those roles.

We are really happy with how this all came together without too much direct iconography. Weaving it into the art makes it so subtle, yet still so helpful! We hope our moderators love it just as much :)

Also: You will all be happy to know that production is going very well and we are still on track for our June fulfillment!
